  • Rebel groups that attended Egypt talks were pleased with the results and called for more meetings before peace talks in Libya

  • Sudanese army denied attacking the only Darfur rebel group that signed a peace agreement in 2006
  • Minnawi group said 45 people were killed and half of Muhajiria was destroyed.  It blamed the attack on Janjaweed militia and Sudanese army
  • The army denied the attack and blamed it on tribal fighting, adding the planes were flying over Haskanita to monitor the situation there
  • Experts believe the fighting aims to consolidate positions ahead of peace talks in Libya

  • US embassy in Sudan announced withdrawal of its staff out of Darfur because of the ongoing violence
  • UN also indicated that violence hampered its humanitarian efforts
  • And, Thailand announced it will send 800 troops to participate in hybrid force

  • Libyan official Abdussalam Triki warned against any Darfur rebel group boycotting peace talks in Libya on October 27
  • Triki announced that international community expects the Libya talks to resolve the crisis
  • He added he will prepare and discuss the details of the peace conference with Sudanese officials
  • Jan Eliasson said that the Libya talks will include groups that have a political presence and not just military
