Reuters: INTERVIEW-US condemns Sudan army, Darfur rebel clashes. The U.S. special envoy to Sudan condemned the fresh fighting between the Sudanese army and rebels in Darfur on Thursday, saying the clashes made it difficult to take Sudanese pledges of peace seriously. "This is a continued military offensive by the Sudan armed forces, part of a pattern of violence the United States condemns and others should condemn," U.S. special envoy to the Sudan Richard Williamson told Reuters.

Reuters: Sudan army, Darfur rebels clash week after ceasefire. Sudan's army said its forces killed 30 rebel fighters on Thursday while repelling an insurgent attack a week after the country's president declared a ceasefire in the region. Leaders from the rebel Sudan Liberation Army confirmed launching a ground assault on a military base in North Darfur, and said the government launched an air attack on nearby villages in response.

Washington Post: ICC Warrants Sought for 3 Sudanese Rebel Chiefs. Vowing to protect Sudanese civilians, the International Criminal Court prosecutor yesterday requested arrest warrants for three rebel commanders he accused of war crimes in an attack that killed 12 African Union peacekeepers in the Darfur region of Sudan. Four months ago, Moreno-Ocampo charged Sudanese President Hassan al-Bashir with genocide -- the court's first charges against a sitting head of state. "No one is above the law," Moreno-Ocampo said yesterday. "All actors in Sudan must recognize this fundamental truth: Those who obstruct peace, security and lasting stability and who target civilians must be held to account," said Jerry Fowler, president of the Washington-based Save Darfur Coalition.
