Reuters: Lawyers to Seek Genocide Charge Against Sudan's Bashir. Prosecutors will try to charge Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir with genocide in Darfur after the International Criminal Court (ICC) denied this count in March, prosecutors at the court said on Monday. The ICC indicted Bashir on seven counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including murder, rape and torture and issued an arrest warrant for him in March but said it had insufficient grounds for a charge of genocide. The court, set up in 2002 by international statute, could change its decision if the prosecution could gather additional evidence, the ICC said in March.

The Washington Post: International Court Under Unusual Fire. When Luis Moreno-Ocampo charged Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir with war crimes last year, the International Criminal Court prosecutor was hailed by human rights advocates as the man who could help bring justice to Darfur. Today, Moreno-Ocampo appears to be the one on trial, with even some of his early supporters questioning his prosecutorial strategy, his use of facts and his personal conduct. Bashir and others have used the controversy to rally opposition to the world's first permanent criminal court, a challenge that may jeopardize efforts to determine who is responsible for massive crimes in Darfur.

BBC: Government Ordered Darfur Attack. Mike Thompson talks to a student alleging she and 30 other women were attacked in Darfur. Fresh claims have emerged of people being attacked in Darfur. A student at Khartoum University has told the Today programme that she and 30 other women were attacked on the university campus by men wielding metal bars. Correspondent Mike Thomson talks to one of the students, who has asked for her name not to be broadcast.
