BBC News: Mbeki unveils Darfur peace plans. Hybrid courts with Sudanese and foreign judges should investigate violence in Sudan's Darfur region, a report by ex-South Africa leader Thabo Mbeki says. The report, commissioned by the African Union, says the Khartoum government - widely held responsible for the abuses - should help choose the judges. African leaders are considering the report at a meeting in Abuja, Nigeria.

Agence France-Presse: AU peace council to discuss Darfur crisis.  African leaders meet in Nigeria on Thursday to discuss an African Union report on ways to resolve the six-year-long conflict in Sudan's western Darfur province.  Around 15 heads of African states who sit on the AU peace and security council, will examine the recommendations drawn up by a high-level AU panel led by South Africa's former president Thabo Mbeki.

Associated Press: Amnesty: Darfur prisoner dies of ill-treatment.  An international rights group says a prisoner sentenced to death for belonging to a Darfur rebel group died from ill-treatment while in custody in Sudan. The London-based Amnesty International said Wednesday it holds the Sudanese government responsible for the death of Ahmed Sulman and called for an independent investigation. Government officials were unavailable for comment.

Omaha World-Herald: Actress talks about Darfur. Showing heart-rending photos on a movie screen behind her--photos of little girls who had been raped, babies who later died, malnourished children - Mia Farrow spoke eloquently and movingly of the Darfur genocide and essentially challenged her audience to step up and help make a difference. Speaking as part of the Omaha Town Hall Lecture Series, Farrow drew a crowd of about 900 Wednesday to the Joslyn Museum's Witherspoon Concert Hall.
