Reuters: INTERVIEW-South Sudan tribal violence kills at least 1,200. Tribal violence in southern Sudan has killed at least 1,200 people this year and could mar the country's first multi-party elections in two decades if it is not stopped, the U.N.'s peacekeeping coordinator said. Speaking to Reuters in a telephone interview from Juba, David Gressly, the United Nations Mission in Sudan's (UNMIS) regional coordinator for south, warned that the violence could mar the elections due next April.

BBC News: Bishop warns of South Sudan war.  One of Sudan's most senior church leaders has warned that violence in the south is threatening the peace deal that ended the 21-year civil war. Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul Yak said recent clashes had been called "tribal conflicts" over cattle but were really deliberate attempts to cause unrest.  Some 2,000 people have died in such clashes this year, the UN says. In a rare statement, the head of the Episcopal Church of Sudan warned that the 2005 peace deal was in "grave danger" unless more is done to prevent conflict.

Daily Nation: Rwandan takes over Darfur force. A Rwandan general formally took over the reins of the multinational peacekeeping forces in the Sudan's Darfur region Tuesday, the United Nations has said. General Patrick Nyamvumba took over for a year term of the African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), after replacing General Martin Luther Agwai from Nigeria.
