Global Day for Darfur

South Africa:

April 12: HURISA has organized an event at 10 Henry Nxumalo in Newtown from 09:00-14:00.

HURISA in collaboration with the South African Human Rights Commission, Save Darfur Consortium and Save Darfur Coalition, is hosting a gathering to commemorate the 5th anniversary of Global Day on Darfur.

Many countries in the world would be joining hands together in remembrance of the suffering children of Darfur who have known no peace and joy since conflict engulfed their region. Many of the children live in camps and are traumatised by what they have seen. Many of their rights including the right to education, health, safety and security are compromised by the on going conflict.

The event seeks to give special focus on the children of Darfur as may of them will be reaching their 5th birthdays without ever having known peace. They have been exposed to violence, trauma and fear without the international community responding adequately to their problem.

Come and spend time with us and learn more about the suffering endured by other children in the continent. In this way you will be depositing your solidarity with the children of Darfur and mark the 5th Anniversary of the Global Day on Darfur. Children will do painting, receive reading material and T-shirts.

We have organised a live band to provide us with cultural music at the event, so don’t miss this Global Day on Darfur!
