Agence France Presse: US welcomes Sudan-Darfur rebel deal. The United States on Monday hailed a ceasefire deal between Sudan and Darfur rebels in the west as a "significant move" toward formal negotiations and a key first step toward reducing violence.

Voice of America: Resettling Darfur's Displaced Raises Questions. As Sudan's government and Darfur rebels move closer to a final peace, efforts are under way to build housing for some of the estimated 2.7 million people uprooted by the war. There are concerns the new settlements could make internally displaced people permanently displaced.

Washington Post: Darfur truce could pave way for peace. Darfur's leading rebel group and the government of Sudan have a bitter history of failed cease-fires and peace deals. But upcoming elections and dramatically improved ties with neighboring Chad have raised hopes that a truce to be signed Tuesday will finally put an end to seven years of devastating war.
