Reuters AlertNet: Abuses drive Darfur refugees 1,000 miles from home.  Refugees from Darfur arriving in northwestern Kenya say rights abuses by horseback militia known as Janjaweed are still forcing people to flee their homes in Sudan's violent west.  Although Sudan's president declared the war over last week, displaced Darfuris who have travelled as far as Kenya's Kakuma refugee camp in recent months told AlertNet militia attacks had driven them to take the risky journey to safety.

Voice of America: AU Security Body Upbeat on Sudan Election Prospects.  Africa's top peace and security body has given a cautiously optimistic assessment of the outlook for Sudan's upcoming national elections. The challenges remain enormous, but a month before voting begins, the African Union Peace and Security Council says Sudan's elections for president and parliament have a reasonable chance of success.

Reuters: Ugandan rebels seek refuge in Sudan's Darfur.  Ugandan rebels notorious for mutilating their victims and abducting children have found a safe haven in Sudan's western Darfur region, an anti-genocide group said in a report that Khartoum dismissed as a lie. A contingent of the feared Lord's Resistance Army "has taken refuge in areas of south Darfur, Sudan, controlled by the government of Sudan," the Washington-based Enough Project said in the report, an advance copy of which was provided to Reuters on Wednesday.

The following piece was written by John Norris on Huffington Post: A House Divided on Sudan?
There were important statements delivered last week by two of the administration's most pivotal actors on Sudan policy, U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice and Special Envoy Scott Gration. There is a great deal of interesting material in both statements, but the comments are most striking in their sheer, sharp, and ultimately disconcerting contrast.
